Maxwel Cornet, whose contract with Olympique Lyonnais runs until June 2021, appears set for a departure. The Ivorian winger, frustrated by limited playing time this season, had already been linked with a move last January. Despite interest from several clubs, he stayed, hoping to convince coach Bruno Genesio—an effort that ultimately did not succeed.
This season, Cornet featured in 31 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals, but he has struggled to make a decisive impact. Acknowledging his situation, the 22-year-old indicated that he has come to a personal decision regarding his future. “There were discussions with the president, that’s true. What happened, happened, I’ve made up my mind at least. I don’t want to talk about my personal situation at this time. The most important thing is to enjoy every match, and achieve our goal at the end of the season,” Cornet said at a press conference.
Among the clubs interested in the winger, German side Wolfsburg remains a strong contender to secure his signature. With his future increasingly clear, a move abroad seems likely for the talented Ivorian.
