Lille Midfielder Rio Mavuba Targeted in Home Burglary
Lille midfielder Rio Mavuba has become the latest victim of a high-profile burglary, after thieves broke into his home and stole two luxury vehicles in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to local newspaper Nord-Éclair, the 30-year-old France international was not present at the time of the incident, which occurred overnight between Sunday and Monday. The burglars made off with a Ferrari and an Audi A8, both of which were later recovered near Roubaix, a suburb northeast of Lille.
Police have launched an investigation into the break-in, though no arrests have been made at this stage.
Mavuba, who has made six Ligue 1 starts this season, is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury. The break-in adds to a difficult period for the veteran midfielder, who remains a key figure in Lille’s squad despite his current absence from the pitch.
While burglaries involving footballers are not uncommon in France — with several players across Ligue 1 having been targeted in recent years — the theft of high-end cars underscores the calculated nature of such crimes. Authorities believe Mavuba’s public profile and known assets may have made him a target.
The incident has once again raised questions about security measures for professional athletes and public figures in France. Mavuba has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
