The Mauritania national football team, known as the Mourabitounes, has concluded a series of intense training sessions in Nouakchott, signaling the conclusion of the preparatory phase ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. The final training session took place this Sunday morning at the Cheikha Boidiya stadium in Nouakchott.

Since last Thursday, the Mourabitounes have been based at the FASQ hotel in Nouakchott, diligently honing their skills in four comprehensive training sessions.

The commitment and dedication displayed during this period underscore the team’s determination as they gear up for the prestigious continental competition.

With their Nouakchott preparations completed, the Mauritania national team is set to embark on the next phase of their journey.

The squad is scheduled to depart for Tabarka, Tunisia, in the coming hours, where they will continue and finalize their preparation in the northern African region.

As part of their preparatory phase, a significant challenge awaits the Mourabitounes in the form of a friendly match against Tunisia on January 6. Additionally, a second friendly encounter, against Namibia on January 10, is also on the agenda, though yet to be officially confirmed.

Looking ahead to the AFCON group stage, Mauritania, placed in Group D, is slated to face Burkina Faso on January 15 at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké.

The commencement of the tournament marks a pivotal moment for the Mourabitounes, and their meticulous preparation signals their earnest commitment to making a significant impact in the competition.

Football enthusiasts worldwide eagerly await the performances of Mauritania in AFCON 2023, as the team looks to navigate a challenging group stage and showcase their prowess on the continental stage.
