Ahmed Ould Yahya to Seek Re-Election as Head of FFRIM
Ahmed Ould Yahya has officially announced his intention to run for a new term as president of the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania (FFRIM). The declaration came during an ordinary general meeting held this weekend at the federation’s headquarters in Nouakchott.
Despite the personal sacrifices involved, including time away from his family and fishing business, Ould Yahya reaffirmed his commitment to football:
“It is true that my position as president of the Federation takes up a large part of my time to the detriment of my work in the fishing industry and my family. But personally, I am passionate about football and I cannot get rid of it.”
With six months left in his current term, Ould Yahya enjoys broad support in Mauritanian football circles. His tenure has been marked by a significant revival in local football, highlighted by:
Mauritania’s first-ever qualification for a continental final phase (CHAN)
Increased international exposure for youth teams in European tournaments
A growing number of players signing professional contracts abroad
Given this impressive record, Ould Yahya is widely expected to win re-election and continue his mission to elevate Mauritanian football.
