Mauritania: Corentin Martins Officially Unveiled on Sunday

Corentin Martins Set to Be Unveiled as Mauritania Head Coach

Nouakchott — Former French international Corentin Martins has been appointed as the new head coach of the Mauritanian national team, the Mourabitounes, and will be officially presented to the public this Sunday.

The Mauritanian Football Federation (FFRIM) confirmed Martins’ appointment in a statement released at the conclusion of its latest executive session, describing the move as part of a long-term vision to align the national team with a compatible sporting project.

“He will be presented at a press conference after the friendly match scheduled for October 12 against Morocco,” the federation announced.

Martins, 45, was selected ahead of several other candidates including Pierre Lechantre, Sébastien Desabre, and former Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac. His appointment follows an extensive recruitment process, during which FFRIM sought a profile that could match its developmental ambitions and tactical roadmap for the future.

The former midfielder enjoyed a distinguished playing career, featuring for clubs such as Brest, Auxerre, and Bordeaux, as well as earning 14 caps for France. He later turned to management, including a spell as interim coach at Ligue 1 side Brest, before shifting focus toward international opportunities.

The appointment signals a new chapter for Mauritanian football, with Martins expected to build on recent progress and guide the team through the upcoming qualifiers and tournaments.

Mauritania’s match against Morocco this weekend will provide fans with an early glimpse of the squad’s direction under its new leadership, even if Martins may not yet be directly involved on the touchline.

As the Mourabitounes continue to develop their football infrastructure and international presence, Martins’ leadership will be closely watched—both at home and across the African football landscape.
