Patrice Neveu, the French coach, has played a pivotal role in the historic qualification of Mauritania for an African competition. Despite not being able to lead the team to the CHAN 2014 in South Africa, Neveu expressed satisfaction with what he considers the accomplishment of his mission.
In an interview with RFI (Radio France Internationale), Neveu mentioned the initial discussions he had with the Head of State, President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, upon his arrival. The President emphasized the challenge of achieving victories, but also asked Neveu if he could revive Mauritanian football. Neveu believes that, with the support of the Federation, they have not only revived Mauritanian football but also achieved the essential qualification, which he deems as a significant accomplishment for a country less known in African and international football.
With five months remaining on his contract until January 2014, Neveu is open to new challenges but doesn’t rule out the possibility of staying in Mauritania. He expressed his ambition to coach teams with the potential to compete in major competitions and conveyed his love for coaching in Africa. The decision about his future, whether to continue in Mauritania or explore opportunities in another country, will depend on various factors.
