Maurice Boakye: Maritimo sign Hamburg forward on free transfer

CS Maritimo have signed centre-forward Maurice Boakye from Hamburger SV II on a free transfer, completing a move that takes the 21-year-old from Germanys fourth tier to Liga Portugal.

Boakye, who holds both German and Ghanaian nationality, joins the Madeira club after a rapid rise in market value over the past three years. Valued at 300,000 at the time of the transfer, he leaves Hamburgs reserve side having established himself as a promising attacking option in the Regionalliga Nord.

Born in Hamburg in September 2004, Boakye is a central striker by trade and strengthens Maritimos options through the middle of the attack. His switch to Portugal marks his first move outside German football, following a career spent entirely in the countrys youth and regional systems.

Boakyes move caps a busy period in his development. In February 2025 he joined Hamburger SV II from VfB Stuttgart II, having previously earned a transfer to Stuttgarts reserves from Eimsbutteler TV in July 2024. During his time at Eimsbutteler TV, his market value grew sharply from 10,000 in August 2023 to 125,000 by June 2024, underlining his progression at senior level.

The forward came through the youth ranks in Hamburg, moving from Concordia Hamburgs youth setup to Hamburger SVs under-17 and under-19 sides before stepping into adult football with Eimsbutteler TV in 2023. By December 2025, during his spell with Hamburger SV II, his valuation had climbed again to 175,000 before reaching 300,000 in June 2026.

Boakye now continues his career in Liga Portugal with Maritimo after completing his free transfer from Hamburger SV II on 7 July 2026.
