German football great Lothar Matthäus has expressed concern about Senegalese forward Nicolas Jackson’s adaptation at Bayern Munich, warning that the striker appears unsettled.

Jackson joined the Bundesliga champions on loan from Chelsea during the summer, with an option for a permanent transfer worth around £56.2 million next year.

However, his underwhelming start has reportedly made Bayern reluctant to trigger the clause when the deal expires.

Jackson, 24, has managed just two goals and one assist in ten appearances across all competitions.

Under new manager Vincent Kompany, he has mostly featured as backup to Harry Kane, limiting his minutes and influence on the pitch.

Speaking on the BILD podcast “Bayern Insider,” Matthäus said Jackson has yet to find his rhythm or connect effectively with Bayern’s attacking structure.

“He gets little playing time and when he has played, he still seems a bit out of place,” Matthäus said.

“With Olise, Kane, Díaz, Kimmich, Pavlović, the ball moves well. With him, it always gets a little stuck.”

The 1990 World Cup winner emphasised that Jackson’s lack of continuity is affecting his confidence.

“He needs playing time,” Matthäus added. “If he only ever comes on for a few minutes, it will be difficult for him to be confident.”

Matthäus also warned that Jackson’s opportunities may shrink further once Jamal Musiala returns from injury, as the German playmaker remains a key figure in Bayern’s attacking plans.

Still, he acknowledged the striker’s potential to succeed if given time to adapt.

“They signed him because they know he’s capable,” he said. “He might not be the perfect fit for Bayern’s quick, short-passing game, but he can contribute with his strength, speed, and finishing.”

Jackson’s future remains uncertain, particularly after his agent reportedly refused Chelsea’s order for him to return following Liam Delap’s injury.

The decision could strain his relationship with manager Enzo Maresca, leaving both his Chelsea and Bayern prospects hanging in the balance.
