Valbuena Set for Dynamo Moscow Move After Eight Years at Marseille
Mathieu Valbuena’s long chapter with Olympique de Marseille is coming to a close. After eight years at the club, the French international is set to join Dynamo Moscow, with a deal expected to be finalized this Friday in the Russian capital.
According to football.fr, Valbuena will travel to Moscow to sign a three-year contract with the Russian Premier League side. A source close to the player told La Provence, “We are going there to finalize the discussions.”
Despite his preference for a move to Spain, where he believed his style would be a better fit, Valbuena’s salary demands reportedly deterred interested clubs. At 29, the attacking midfielder has instead opted for a lucrative move to Russia, signing a contract worth €10 million over three years.
The transfer will bring in approximately €7 million for Marseille, with whom Valbuena was still under contract until 2016.
Valbuena leaves behind a significant legacy at OM, having joined the club in 2006 and becoming a fan favourite known for his creativity, tenacity, and leadership on the pitch.
