Mathieu Dossevi: Will the Togolese Remain at Standard Until 2020?

Mathieu Dossevi Close to Permanent Move to Standard de Liège

Mathieu Dossevi has become a key figure for Standard de Liège during his loan spell from Olympiakos, and the Togolese international midfielder looks set to make his stay at the Belgian club permanent. According to reports from Sport.be, Standard has reached an agreement with the Greek club to exercise the purchase option, with a transfer fee of €1.3 million. If finalized, Dossevi could sign a contract with Les Rouches until 2020, cementing his role as a central figure in the squad.

Dossevi’s influence at Standard has grown steadily. Since his arrival on loan, he has contributed significantly to the team’s performances, impressing both fans and coaching staff. His versatility in midfield, ability to create scoring opportunities, and knack for decisive plays have made him a standout player. Standard de Liège sees him as a long-term asset, and the move would secure his services beyond the remaining eighteen months he has on his Olympiakos contract.

Despite the optimism surrounding the deal, Dossevi himself has indicated that nothing is finalized yet. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the 27-year-old emphasized that while he is eager to stay at Standard, issues between the clubs are delaying the completion of the transfer. “I haven’t signed anything yet,” Dossevi said. “It’s in progress, but problems between the clubs and beyond my control are blocking the deal. I’ve been offered a contract until 2020, and I agree to stay because I’m completely happy here, but I repeat, nothing has been agreed at the moment. When will things get sorted out? It could be in the next few hours, or never.”

The comments highlight the often-complex nature of transfers, where agreements between clubs, player negotiations, and administrative details must all align for a deal to be finalized. For Standard, securing Dossevi permanently would provide stability in midfield and allow the team to build around a player who has already adapted well to Belgian football. For Dossevi, it represents an opportunity to continue flourishing in a familiar environment where he has already proven his quality.

With the deal reportedly close, both Standard and Dossevi are hopeful for a resolution soon. Fans will be eagerly watching for confirmation, as the midfielder’s presence could be crucial for the remainder of the season. If completed, the transfer would reflect Standard de Liège’s commitment to retaining talent and investing in players who can contribute immediately and over the long term.

As the situation develops, all eyes are on Les Rouches and Olympiakos to finalize the agreement, with Dossevi’s future hanging in the balance. Regardless of the outcome, it is clear that Mathieu Dossevi has already made a mark at Standard de Liège and will remain a player to watch.
