Zambia beat Tanzania 1-0 in their Group A clash at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia on Tuesday afternoon.
In a contest that appeared destined to end in a stalemate, Sabobo struck in the 11th minute of added time, sealing all three points for the Junior Chipolopolo and putting them in a strong position to reach the quarterfinals with their first win of the tournament.
Tanzania, by contrast, are now mathematically out of contention for qualification from the group.
Despite a disciplined display and resolute defensive effort, the young Taifa Stars were undone in the dying seconds, concluding their campaign with three defeats and a goal difference of -3.
Zambia, who had previously drawn goalless with both Sierra Leone and Egypt, finally found their breakthrough at the death.
They now sit second in Group A with five points, behind group leaders Sierra Leone, who top the standings with seven points.
Zambia’s final group game is against South Africa on Friday, May 8, while Tanzania play hosts Egypt, with all set to kick off at 18:00 GMT.
