Tanzania have seized control of Group B at the 2025 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a dramatic late winner secured their second consecutive victory, this time against Mauritania.
Following an impressive 2-0 triumph over Burkina Faso in their opening game, the Taifa Stars returned to action at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium to face a determined Mauritanian side in their second group fixture.
Both teams showcased grit and determination, but the first half ended goalless despite several promising chances. The intensity only ramped up after the break as both sides pushed for the breakthrough.
Mauritania came close on a few occasions but failed to convert, and their missed opportunities would prove costly. In the dying moments of the match, Tanzania found the winner in the 89th minute. Shomari Kapombe delivered the decisive goal after latching onto an assist from Iddi Seleman, sending the home crowd into celebration.

With the 1-0 win, Tanzania now sit comfortably at the top of Group B with six points from two matches. They are on course to advance to the knockout stage of the tournament.
