The breakthrough finally came in the 66th minute when South African defender Tylon Smith rose highest during a corner to nod home the decisive goal, sparking wild celebrations on the Young Bafana Bafana bench.
Nigeria responded with urgency, making attacking substitutions in search of an equalizer. However, South Africa’s backline remained resolute, frustrating the Young Eagles’ late push and keeping their slim lead intact until the final whistle.
It was a gritty performance from South Africa, who made key tactical changes after the break that ultimately paid off. South Africa will play Morocco in the final on May 18th.
