The Atlas Lions of Morocco are in a good position to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Round 5 of the African qualification campaign.
The North Africans edged past Niger with a hard-fought 2-1 victory on Friday, maintaining their position at the top of Group E in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
On the matchday, Niger struck first just two minutes into the second half, with Youssouf Oumarou giving his side an unexpected lead.
However, Morocco responded swiftly in the 59th minute when Ismael Saibari found the back of the net to level the score.
The Atlas Lions continued to press for a winner, but their efforts seemed to fall short. Just as it looked like they would have to wait for their next fixtures to solidify their qualification hopes, Bilal El Khannouss stepped up in stoppage time.
The 20-year-old midfielder delivered a dramatic match-winning goal in the first minute of added time, sealing a crucial victory for Morocco.
