Uganda made an important step towards advancing to the knockout stage of the 2025 CAF TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Friday evening after securing their first victory at the tournament with a 3-0 win over Guinea.
The Ugandans faced Guinea in their second Group C match, which was played at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium in Kampala. From the onset, Uganda dominated the contest, controlling possession and creating the better chances, while Guinea struggled to keep up with the pace and intensity of the hosts.
The breakthrough came in the 31st minute when Reagan Mpande latched onto a well-timed pass from Joel Sserunjogi and found the back of the net to give Uganda a deserved lead. The goal lifted the energy inside the stadium as the home fans roared in support.
After the halftime break, Uganda continued to push forward in search of more goals. Their persistence paid off in the 63rd minute when they were awarded a penalty. Allan Okello stepped up to take the spot-kick and calmly slotted it past the goalkeeper to double Uganda’s advantage.
Guinea’s attempts to respond were met with strong defensive work from the Ugandan backline, while the midfield kept the visitors under pressure. As the game approached its final moments, Uganda struck again. In the 90th minute, Ahimbisibwe found space in the box and finished clinically to seal a convincing 3-0 victory.
