Yesterday, the 11th edition of the Match against Poverty, organized by Zinédine Zidane and Ronaldo in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), took place. This year’s event saw the friends of Ronaldo and Zidane facing off against the friends of Young Boys from Berne, resulting in a thrilling 8-6 victory for the former.
The match showcased the enduring skills of two former world champions, Ronaldo and Zidane, who exhibited remarkable technique throughout the game. Zidane, in particular, impressed the audience with a hat-trick of stylish goals, demonstrating his exceptional talent on the field.
Among the star-studded lineup that entertained the Swiss crowd were Zidane himself, alongside Figo, Nedved, and Vieri, who all contributed to the excitement of the match.
However, beyond the spectacle of football, the primary purpose of the event was to raise funds for the Philippines, which had been devastated by Typhoon Haiyan in November 2013, claiming the lives of over 6,000 people.
The charitable match served as a platform for both entertainment and philanthropy, highlighting the power of sports to make a positive impact on communities in need.
