MAS Fes move top of Botola after beating Hassania Agadir
Defending champions MAS Fes moved to the top of the Botola Pro standings after beating Hassania Agadir 2-1 on Saturday to maintain their perfect start to the new Moroccan league season.
Anas El Mahraoui and John Mabasa put MAS Fes in control before half-time at El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia, with Imad Riahi’s second-half penalty proving insufficient for Hassania to rescue a point.
The victory gives MAS Fes six points from their opening two matches and strengthens their early title defence in Morocco.
MAS Fes take control before half-time
Both sides went into the match with three points after winning their opening fixtures of the 2026-27 campaign, but it was the defending champions who made the stronger start.
El Mahraoui opened the scoring in the 26th minute, continuing his impressive beginning to the season after also finding the net in MAS Fes’ opening-day victory.
The visitors then extended their advantage 13 minutes later when Mabasa converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0.
MAS Fes carried their two-goal lead into half-time and appeared firmly in control of the contest.
Hassania fight back but champions hold on
Hassania returned from the interval with greater attacking intent and were rewarded when Riahi converted a penalty in the 56th minute.
The goal gave the Souss club renewed hope of completing a comeback, with Hassania creating several chances as they searched for an equaliser.
MAS Fes goalkeeper Salaheddine Chihab and the defence stood firm under the pressure, while the champions also had opportunities to restore their two-goal advantage.
Neither side could add to the score, allowing MAS Fes to hold on for a second successive 2-1 victory.
Champions maintain perfect start as Africa beckons
MAS Fes opened their title defence with a 2-1 comeback win against Renaissance Zemamra last weekend, with Mabasa scoring from the penalty spot before El Mahraoui completed the turnaround.
Their latest victory leaves them top of the early Botola standings with six points, while Hassania remain on three points after their opening-day win.
The Fes club are also competing on the African stage and recently progressed past Burkina Faso’s Rahimo FC in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
Their attention will soon turn to a two-legged Champions League qualifier against ASEC Mimosas later in October, meaning the Moroccan champions face a demanding domestic and continental schedule as they attempt to defend their Botola title.
