Marwan Attia has added another setback to Al Ahly’s shaky Club World Cup campaign.
The midfielder picked up his second yellow card of the tournament in the defeat to Palmeiras, ruling him out of the crucial final group game against Porto.
Attia had already been booked in the opening match against Inter Miami, and his absence now piles more pressure on the Cairo giants ahead of their must-win clash with the Portuguese side on Tuesday.
Al Ahly will also be without Imam Ashour and Taher Mohammed Taher, both sidelined through injury. Midfielder Ahmed Nabil Koka remains a doubt as well after suffering a bruised knee, although medical staff are racing to get him fit in time.
The team’s form hasn’t helped matters either. After a goalless draw against Inter Miami in the opener, they suffered a 2-0 loss to Palmeiras in their second group match.
Now without three key players and their fate hanging in the balance, Al Ahly must regroup quickly if they hope to advance beyond the group stage and revive their fading Club World Cup hopes.
