Marumo Gallants face January wait after reported registration error leaves two signings unavailable
Marumo Gallants will reportedly be unable to use Orlando Pirates loanees Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko until January after an administrative error prevented the pair from being registered before the transfer window closed.
Sources told iDiski Times that Zimbabwe international Msendami and Mali midfielder Mariko completed their moves to Gallants towards the end of the window, but the required registration process was not completed in time.
Neither player is currently eligible to represent the club. Their next opportunity to be registered will come only when the transfer window reopens in January.
The two players have not been included in a matchday squad since joining Gallants, with their continued absence prompting questions over their status and the club’s handling of the transfers.
The reported problem is another setback for Gallants, who are struggling near the bottom of the Betway Premiership. The late arrivals had initially been viewed as important additions to a squad in need of reinforcements.
Msendami and Mariko were expected to add quality, international experience and a different attacking option for the remainder of the campaign. Instead, Gallants must now continue without two of their most prominent recent signings.
Gallants under pressure
The registration issue comes during a difficult start to the season. Gallants have lost six matches and only claimed their first victory last Friday, when they beat Siwelele 3-2.
That result offered some relief, but the club remains under pressure to improve its position. Securing two players capable of making an immediate impact had appeared to provide encouragement, particularly as Gallants attempt to recover from their difficult opening to the campaign.
The reported failure to complete the formalities in time means those reinforcements cannot contribute for now. January is the earliest point at which the situation can be addressed, leaving the club to find solutions from its existing squad.
Gallants will therefore have to manage the coming fixtures without Msendami and Mariko, while attempting to build on their first win of the season and move away from the lower end of the standings.
The development has also created an unwanted distraction for a club whose priority is to improve its results, with the two signings unable to provide the boost originally expected from their arrivals.
