According to Indomitable Lions assistant coach Martin Ndtoungou Mpilé, Samuel Eto’o has not officially left the Cameroon national team. The coach states that there has been no official statement from the captain, and he is considered selectable until such an announcement is made.
“In principle, there has been no official statement from the captain of the Indomitable Lions. We believe he remains the captain of the Lions. He is currently active in his club. There is no reason not to summon him. Not only is he a national team player, but he is also the captain. And so far he has not made an official statement,” said Mpilé in an interview with the camfoot site.
Speculation arose after it was rumored that Samuel Eto’o had announced his international retirement in the locker room after the match against Libya (1-0) played on September 8. Despite facing challenges in adapting to his new club at Chelsea, Eto’o is seen as an essential figure in the Cameroon national team, and questions have been raised about the future of the Cameroonian attack in his absence, as noted by Roger Milla.
