Martin Allen urges West Ham to rethink Mohammed Kudus’ role

Martin Allen urges West Ham to rethink Mohammed Kudus' role

Former Brentford manager Martin Allen has called on West Ham to reassess Mohammed Kudus’ role in the team as the Ghanaian forward struggles to make an impact in the Premier League.

Kudus, who joined West Ham from Ajax, has hit a difficult patch, failing to score or provide an assist in his last eight appearances.

His struggles have coincided with a poor run of form for the Hammers, who are slipping dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, Allen highlighted the significance of performance data in evaluating a player’s contribution, suggesting Kudus’ current statistics are cause for concern.

As a coach, you always have to analyse the statistics.

How many games has Kudus played? How many goals and assists has he provided?” Allen questioned.

Declining form raises selection concerns

Despite a promising start to life in England, where he notched 14 goals following his transfer from Ajax, Kudus has struggled to replicate that success in recent weeks.

His latest disappointment came in the match against Brentford, where he squandered a clear scoring opportunity.

Allen believes that if the Ghanaian’s struggles continue, West Ham boss Graham Potter may be forced to consider alternative options in attack.

If he reaches 20 games without a goal or a decisive contribution, we will have to ask ourselves whether he is in the team, Allen stated.

Competition for places intensifies

With Crysencio Summerville nearing a return from injury, Allen suggested that Kudus might benefit from time on the bench to regain confidence and effectiveness.

I think Summerville will be fit soon and he will play in his place.

Right now, Kudus doesn’t bring what it takes to be a competitive team, he added.

As West Ham fight to climb away from the relegation battle, Potter faces a crucial decision on whether to persist with Kudus or explore other attacking options to revive the team’s fortunes.
