Olympique de Marseille have secured the signing of Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd.
The 29-year-old defender agreeing to a contract that runs until the summer of 2030. The transfer is reportedly valued at €23 million.
Aguerd arrived in Marseille this week, accompanied by a small delegation of club officials.
Mehdi Benatia, the club’s sporting director, played a pivotal role in convincing the former West Ham player to commit to the French side.
Marseille had already bolstered their defensive ranks this summer with the acquisitions of CJ Egan-Riley and Facundo Medina.
However, with the Champions League campaign approaching, the club sought an experienced central defender to anchor the backline – a role Aguerd is expected to fill.
The Moroccan international comes off a productive season at Real Sociedad, where he made 36 appearances, before briefly returning to West Ham.
Negotiations with Marseille had been ongoing earlier in the summer but were delayed due to interest from other clubs, including Sunderland.
Aguerd brings a wealth of experience to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad, with 55 international caps for Morocco and prior stints at Dijon and Rennes.
His return to Ligue 1 is set to add stability to Marseille’s defence as he prepares to impress at the iconic Stade Vélodrome, in front of the club’s passionate supporters.
