Marseille set to part ways with Habib Beye at steep cost

Habib Beye is set to leave Olympique Marseille after a disappointing end to the season, though his dismissal will come at a significant price for the club.

The Senegalese manager’s days are numbered, and unless there is a last-minute twist, he will depart the bench.

The official appointment of Gregory Lorenzi accelerated the process, as Olympique Marseille is already searching for a new first-team coach. Beye knows his fate hangs by a thread; even the last-gasp Champions League qualification was insufficient to keep his job.

Several candidates are being explored to replace him, including Bruno Genesio, Sergio Conceicao, and Christophe Galtier. However, firing Habib Beye will cost Marseille dearly. Reports indicate he earns approximately €230,000 per month, and terminating his contract will trigger severance payments of €2.5 to €3 million.

This figure is modest in professional football but represents a real blow for Marseille, whose finances are already in the red. Under budget restrictions, every euro counts, and such expenses without a mutual agreement will weigh heavily on the club’s finances, especially while remaining under DNCG scrutiny.
