French giants Olympique Marseille have reached an agreement in principle to appoint Franco-Senegalese Habib Beye as their head coach.
The French giants are currently without a substantive trainer following the departure of Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi last week.
However, Beye, who recently parted ways with fellow French club, Stade Rennes has emerged as Marseille’s preferred candidate following recent developments at the club.
Rennes formally unveiled Franck Haise as their new head coach on Wednesday, with the former OGC Nice boss replacing Beye at Roazhon Park. Beye’s exit, however, had been drawn out, after Rennes announced earlier in the week that he had been placed on leave, effectively paving the way for his departure.
Since De Zerbi’s exit, Beye has quickly risen to the top of the shortlist as Marseille look to stabilise their technical direction ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.
The situation initially appeared complicated by the announced exit of sporting director Medhi Benatia, a key figure in the club’s recruitment and strategic planning. However, club owner Frank McCourt moved swiftly to retain Benatia, reinstating him with increased authority within the sporting structure — a decision that reportedly reduced the influence of club president Pablo Longoria.
With internal matters now settled, negotiations with Beye have accelerated. RMC Sport reports that the two parties have reached a broad agreement, with only final details remaining before the appointment is made official. If everything is concluded in time, Beye could be unveiled quickly and even take charge of Marseille’s bench for Friday’s Ligue 1 clash against Stade Brestois.
Should the deal be finalised, the move would mark a significant step in Beye’s coaching career, as he prepares to lead one of France’s most demanding and high-profile clubs at a pivotal moment in their season.
