According to the ongoing survey by Africa Top Sports on Africans’ favorite French football club, Olympique de Marseille (OM) holds a significant lead despite the presence of stars in Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Monaco. The current figures show a preference of 60% for OM, compared to 26% for PSG and 4% for Monaco.
This trend is also reflected in France, especially during the resumption of the Ligue 1 championship, where Marseille attracted a large following for the match against Guingamp. The host club announced that the Sunday match at 7 p.m. would be played in front of a sold-out crowd at the Roudourou stadium, with all 18,110 seats occupied.
Marseille made notable acquisitions during the transfer window, bringing in four players: Dimitri Payet, Giannelli Imbula, Benjamin Mendy, and Saber Khlifa. The strengthened squad seems to have contributed to Marseille’s popularity and support among fans, both in Africa and in France.
