Marseille join race to sign Haitham Hassan after impressive World Cup displays
Olympique de Marseille have reportedly entered the race to sign Egyptian winger Haitham Hassan following his outstanding performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The French giants have identified the Real Oviedo star as a potential summer transfer target after he caught the eye with a series of impressive displays for Egypt on the world’s biggest football stage.
Hassan played a key role in Egypt’s World Cup campaign, producing an influential performance against Australia to help the Pharaohs secure qualification to the Round of 16. He then further enhanced his growing reputation despite Egypt’s defeat to Argentina in the knockout stage, with his attacking quality earning praise from fans and scouts alike.
The 23-year-old, who previously represented France at youth international level before switching allegiance to Egypt, has used the World Cup as the perfect platform to elevate his profile and attract interest from several clubs across Europe.
As per reports, a number of clubs are now monitoring Hassan’s situation, with Real Oviedo expected to receive formal offers during the summer transfer window. His performances have convinced many that the winger is ready to take the next step in his career.
Marseille, however, are not alone in the race. Scottish champions Celtic have already expressed strong interest, while several English clubs are also believed to be tracking the talented forward, setting up what could become a competitive battle for his signature.
Real Oviedo are determined not to lose one of their prized assets on the cheap. The Spanish club reportedly rejected Celtic’s opening bid and insist that any interested club must trigger Hassan’s €12 million release clause before a transfer can be completed.
Marseille’s pursuit could also be complicated by the club’s financial constraints, making it difficult to meet Oviedo’s asking price unless funds are generated through player sales.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Hassan is open to taking the next step in his career, making the coming weeks crucial as interest in his services continues to grow.
Real Oviedo also stand to make a significant profit on the player, whom they signed just two years ago, while Villarreal are expected to receive a percentage of any future transfer fee due to a sell-on clause included in his previous deal.
With his technical ability, creativity and performances at the World Cup attracting widespread attention, Haitham Hassan has emerged as one of the most sought-after Egyptian players in the summer transfer market.
