Mathieu Valbuena backs Habib Beye as Marseille’s new manager
Mathieu Valbuena has voiced his support for Habib Beye following the Senegalese coach’s appointment as manager of Olympique de Marseille, stressing that Beye has the character and experience to succeed at the French club.
Beye officially took charge of Marseille last Wednesday and will make his managerial debut tonight in Ligue 1 against Stade Brestois 29.
The former Marseille player has raised some questions given the high-pressure environment at the Stade Vélodrome, but Valbuena, who played alongside Beye, is confident the new manager is well prepared.
“He’s not intimidated by the Marseille context. He knows the demands, he knows what he’s getting into. He also knows that a past in Marseille doesn’t mean you’ll get any favors, it’s a clean slate, only results will count.

I think Habib has nothing to lose. He won’t be spared, that’s for sure, but he has OM in his heart, he has the character to succeed,” Valbuena told RMC.
Valbuena emphasized that Beye’s prior experience at Marseille as a player gives him an understanding of the club’s expectations and the pressures inherent in managing a top Ligue 1 side.
According to Valbuena, Beye’s familiarity with the club culture and demands positions him to approach the role with a clear perspective and determination to succeed.
The former attacking midfielder’s endorsement comes as Marseille seek stability and results under their new leadership. Beye inherits a team with passionate supporters and high expectations, where managerial success depends heavily on immediate impact.
Valbuena’s comments underline confidence in Beye’s ability to navigate the challenges while leveraging his past connection with the club.
With his first game imminent, all eyes will be on Beye as he begins his tenure at Marseille, carrying the hopes of fans and the faith of those who know his dedication and character.
