Marseille consider keeping Angel Gomes under Bruno Genesio

Angel Gomes has returned to Olympique Marseille after an unsuccessful loan spell at Wolverhampton, but the English midfielder may now have an opportunity to rebuild his career under new manager Bruno Genesio.

Marseille are reportedly considering keeping him rather than spending heavily on another replacement.

Gomes joined Wolverhampton during the January transfer window after a difficult start to the season in southern France. However, the English club’s relegation to the Championship prevented them from retaining him, forcing the midfielder to return to Marseille.

His comeback comes at a time of major change around the club. Roberto De Zerbi has left his position, while Genesio has taken charge and is overseeing a fresh sporting project. That new environment could offer Gomes the stability and confidence needed to rediscover his best form.

Marseille still need to strengthen their squad, but financial restraint means every decision must be carefully considered. Keeping a player already under contract could therefore prove more practical than pursuing an expensive signing. Gomes’ technical quality and experience remain valuable assets if he can regain consistency.

Much will depend on Genesio’s assessment during pre-season. If the new coach can restore Gomes’ confidence, the midfielder may yet become an important part of Marseille’s plans for the campaign ahead.
