Marseille coach applauds Amine Harit after shining in Toulouse victory
Moroccan midfielder Amine Harit has earned praise from Olympique de Marseille coach Bruno Genesio after scoring in his side’s 2-0 victory over Toulouse in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
The 29-year-old opened the scoring at the Stade Vélodrome just two minutes into the encounter, delivering an impressive performance on the right wing despite playing outside his preferred position.
Genesio was particularly impressed by Harit’s ability to adapt to the role, highlighting his confidence, technical qualities and willingness to take on opponents.
Speaking to Ligue 1+ after the ninth round of the French championship, the Marseille coach acknowledged that the Moroccan international had exceeded his expectations in the position.
Genesio praises Harit’s adaptability
“He doesn’t amaze me, but he surprises me in a very positive way because this isn’t necessarily his preferred position. He’s more of a player who operates behind the striker or on the left,” Genesio said, according to Maxifoot.
The French coach also highlighted Harit’s confidence and determination, while praising his ability to influence teammates and make a difference in individual situations.
“He has confidence and desire. He wants to show what he can do,” Genesio explained.
Harit’s performance against Toulouse underlined his growing importance to Marseille, with the Moroccan demonstrating that he can contribute effectively even when deployed away from his familiar attacking positions.
Harit and Gouiri inspire Marseille victory
The Moroccan midfielder made an immediate impact, putting Marseille ahead in the second minute with a first-time finish using the outside of his right foot after being set up by Algerian international Amine Gouiri.
Gouiri subsequently doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 25th minute to secure all three points.
The victory was Marseille’s fourth consecutive league win, lifting Genesio’s side to sixth place in the Ligue 1 standings.
Harit has now registered three goals in nine league appearances this season, having previously scored against Troyes and Angers in October.
Moroccan midfielder enjoying encouraging return
Harit’s latest contribution represents a positive return to Marseille following his loan spell at Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir during the 2025-26 campaign.
The Moroccan international recorded two goals and three assists in the Turkish Super Lig before returning to France.
His display against Toulouse also earned him the man-of-the-match award, although the midfielder was quick to emphasise the importance of the team’s collective effort.
“It’s a team award for me,” he told Ligue 1+, reflecting on Marseille’s defensive organisation during a challenging second half.
Gouiri highlights understanding with Harit
The attacking partnership between Harit and Gouiri provided another encouraging aspect of Marseille’s performance.
Gouiri, who supplied the assist for the Moroccan’s opening goal, described their understanding on the pitch by saying they “speak the same football”.
The Algerian international also pointed to the freedom Genesio gives them in attacking areas, allowing the two players to combine effectively and create opportunities.
Marseille will now turn their attention to their Europa League trip to Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday before facing Lens in their next Ligue 1 fixture.
