Habib Beye confident Aubameyang ready for Toulouse after Lyon double

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang answered any questions about his longevity with a decisive double in Olympique de Marseille’s 3-2 win over Olympique Lyonnais, as coach Habib Beye insisted there are no concerns over the striker’s fitness ahead of their French Cup meeting with Toulouse FC.

At 36, Aubameyang delivered a performance full of intensity and precision in Sunday’s Ligue 1 encounter.

His two goals proved decisive in a tightly contested match and capped an energetic display that lasted nearly 95 minutes.

Such an effort inevitably raised questions about how the Gabon international would recover with another fixture scheduled just three days later.

Marseille are due to face Toulouse on Wednesday, and attention quickly turned to whether the veteran forward would be ready to lead the line again.

Speaking at a press conference, Beye was quick to dismiss any doubts.

“Pierre-Emerick showed all his qualities. Being able to maintain that intensity for 95 minutes against Lyon is impressive.

We have other players capable of playing in that position, like Mason Greenwood, or Igor Paixao with his speed. For Aubameyang, the most important thing is the enjoyment he gets. The victory also helps with recovery.

Today, I have no doubt about my players’ ability to play another match three days later. We’ve recovered very well, worked very hard on performance and medical aspects.

There might be rotation and internal competition, but I’m not worried about the physiological and physical side of things,” the Senegalese coach assured.

Beye highlighted the work done behind the scenes on performance and medical preparation, underlining his belief that the squad is equipped to handle the quick turnaround between matches.

Although alternatives are available in attack, the Marseille manager’s comments strongly suggest Aubameyang remains central to his plans.

Barring any last-minute issues, the experienced forward is expected to spearhead the side once more when they take on Toulouse in the French Cup.
