Olympique de Marseille secured a 2-1 victory over Benfica in a pre-season friendly held in Clermont-Ferrand, thanks to a decisive goal from new signing Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian striker, who entered the match at halftime replacing André-Pierre Gignac, netted his first goal for Marseille just ten minutes into the second half, at the 56th minute, beating Benfica’s goalkeeper Artur Moraes.
The scoring opened early when Nico Gaitan put Benfica ahead in the 13th minute, but Gignac quickly leveled for Marseille in the 21st minute. Batshuayi’s goal ultimately sealed the win for OM.
Previously, in the match against Bayer Leverkusen, Batshuayi made an impact by forcing an own goal, showing promising form in Marseille’s pre-season build-up.
