The question of loyalty to the club crest has resurfaced at Olympique de Marseille, and the sporting director, José Anigo, has taken a stance following the refusal of certain players to wear the club’s crest. Among those in question is the young Ghanaian international striker, Jordan Ayew.
At 21 years old, Jordan Ayew has played in four Ligue 1 matches this season and has openly expressed a desire for more playing time. José Anigo, while acknowledging Ayew’s talents, noted, “He is a young player full of qualities, and we want to rely on him. The only problem there was, was him creating it by demanding playing time. Sometimes he’s a little impatient, but there’s nothing serious or nasty about it. He is still young and gaining experience.”
Anigo emphasized that Jordan Ayew understands the quality of players in the squad, including Gignac, Rémy, Valbuena, and Amalfitano. Anigo further stressed that expressing such concerns should happen on the field rather than in the press.
The issue of wearing the club crest without any players refusing it was highlighted in July during a friendly match against FC Sion when José Anigo reportedly decided to shave the mohawks of players who refused to wear the crest. The club’s leadership aims to instill discipline in the team through this decision. Jordan Ayew may face consequences, possibly in the form of fines, for his stance.
