Struggling to find form at AS Roma this season, Steven Nzonzi could be on the move this summer. The French midfielder has attracted interest from several clubs, including two from France, with Olympique de Marseille reportedly among the suitors.
After a disappointing campaign, Marseille could be looking to reinforce their midfield, especially if they fail to secure a Champions League spot. Nzonzi, who joined Roma from Sevilla FC last summer for €30 million including bonuses, has struggled to adapt to Serie A. Despite making 26 league appearances, contributing just one goal and two assists, the 30-year-old has failed to make the impact expected of him.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are open to letting Nzonzi leave if a satisfactory offer comes in. The club, currently sixth in Serie A and with the midfielder under contract until 2022, could accept around €20 million for the former Sevilla man.
For Marseille, the price could be a hurdle, particularly if they miss out on next season’s Champions League revenue. However, the operation could become more feasible if OM reduces their squad size during the summer and receives financial support from owner Frank McCourt. Should these conditions align, Nzonzi could become a key addition to Marseille’s midfield as they aim to strengthen their squad for next season.
