Marseille Midfielder Alaixys Romao Nears Besiktas Move
Alaixys Romao is on the verge of leaving Olympique de Marseille, with Turkish giants Beşiktaş poised to secure the services of the Togolese international midfielder.
According to Le Parisien, Romao has already agreed personal terms with Beşiktaş, moving the potential transfer one step closer to completion. The two clubs are now reportedly finalising the transfer fee, with €2 million being cited as a likely sum for the 31-year-old, who is under contract with Marseille until June 2016.
Romao joined Marseille in 2013 from Lorient, having previously played for Grenoble, and has since been a consistent presence in the OM midfield. Known for his work rate and physical style, the Togolese Hawk has featured regularly for both club and country, bringing stability and experience to the teams he represents.
However, with the new season underway and Marseille reshaping their squad under new leadership, Romao appears to be heading for the exit door. A move to Istanbul would mark the next chapter in his career, offering a fresh challenge at a club that regularly competes in European competitions.
If the transfer goes through, it would represent a modest but welcome financial gain for Marseille, who risk losing Romao on a free transfer next summer if no deal is struck now.
For Beşiktaş, the acquisition of Romao would bolster their midfield with a seasoned professional capable of anchoring the centre of the pitch — a profile the club has been seeking to strengthen ahead of their domestic and European campaigns.
