Italian forward of Ghanaian descent, Mario Balotelli, has opened up on some abuse he suffered while playing for Serie A side Genoa.
Balotelli, 34, signed for Genoa in 2024 in a move from Turkish outfit Adana Demirspor.
Although he arrived with a lot of expectations, the former Manchester City striker struggled for playing time, a situation that affected his relationship with manager Patrick Vieira.
Speaking in an interview, Balotelli has disclosed that he never wants to hear from Genoa again because of how badly they treated him.
He stated that without provocation, the club consistently insulted him during his time at Genoa.
“I expect to never hear from Genoa again in my life. They insulted me for no reason, without apology, even though I didn’t do anything wrong,” Balotelli told Tutto Mercato Web.
He added about Vieira: “It seemed as if he was afraid that I would score goals because it would mean he would have to play me, and he didn’t want that. He wanted to be the savior, and he didn’t like that the journalists were always asking him about me.”
“Vieira didn’t accept any advice from me. He could have listened instead of cursing. For me, this is just a desire to show off. He wants to be in the spotlight, or maybe I simply couldn’t stand him.”
