Marcel Tisserand is set to join his third Saudi Arabian club, Al-Khaleej, on a season-long loan, marking another chapter in the Congolese international’s career in the Middle East. The 31-year-old defender, who has previously played for Al-Ettifaq and spent the last season on loan at Abha, will now reinforce Al-Khaleej’s defense for the 2024-2025 Saudi Pro League campaign.
Al-Khaleej confirmed Tisserand’s loan move through a video posted on their official X account, expressing their excitement at acquiring the experienced center-back.
With only one year remaining on his contract with Al-Ettifaq, Tisserand’s temporary move to the Saihat-based club is seen as a significant boost to their defensive lineup.
Al-Ettifaq, Tisserand’s parent club, wished him well in his second consecutive loan spell. Last season, he made 11 appearances for Abha, adding to his overall record of 45 matches and one assist for Al-Ettifaq.
Tisserand’s journey in Saudi Arabia began in September 2020, following a diverse career across Europe.
Before arriving in the Saudi Pro League, Tisserand started his professional career in France, playing for AS Monaco, RC Lens, and Toulouse in Ligue 1.
His performances caught the attention of German clubs, leading him to stints at FC Ingolstadt and VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
Tisserand later moved to Turkey, where he played for Fenerbahçe before making the switch to Saudi Arabia.
As Tisserand prepares for his new challenge with Al-Khaleej, he will be under the guidance of head coach Georgios Donis.
The team is set to kick off their 2024-2025 season with an away match against Damac on August 23, 2024.
Tisserand’s experience and defensive capabilities are expected to play a crucial role in Al-Khaleej’s efforts to establish themselves in the competitive Saudi Pro League.
This move signifies Tisserand’s continued relevance in Saudi football, where his adaptability and experience across multiple leagues have made him a valuable asset.
Al-Khaleej will be hoping that Tisserand’s presence will strengthen their defense as they aim to make a strong start to the new season.
