Marcel Kalonda: DR Congo defender joins Morupule from Kansanshi
DR Congo centre-back Marcel Kalonda has joined Botswana side Morupule from Kansanshi, strengthening the club’s defensive options ahead of the new campaign. The 28-year-old moves after three seasons with the Zambian outfit, where he established himself as a regular in the heart of the back line.
Kalonda, a right-footed defender who stands at 1.88m, arrives at Morupule having built up significant experience in continental competition. He has made 11 appearances in the CAF Champions League and a further four in the CAF Confederation Cup, amassing more than 1,100 minutes across the two tournaments.
The move to Botswana marks a new chapter in a career that has been shaped largely in Zambian football. Kalonda first emerged at Kabwe Warriors before earning a switch to ZESCO United in 2017. He returned to Kabwe Warriors in 2021, then joined Kansanshi in 2023, where he remained until completing his latest transfer.
Morupule have turned to Kalonda to add height and experience to their central defensive unit, with the Congolese defender now set to anchor the back line for the Botswana club. His arrival also underlines Morupule’s intent to add players with a track record at continental level.
Kalonda’s move from Kansanshi to Morupule was finalised on 14 July 2026.
