Marc Guehi marked his first appearance for Manchester City with a calm and composed display at the heart of defence in the 2-0 Premier League win over Wolves at the Etihad Stadium.
The 25-year-old, recently signed from Crystal Palace in a deal worth around £20 million plus add-ons, started in the 23rd-round fixture and immediately slotted into Pep Guardiola’s back line with authority.
Guehi arrived at City on the back of an impressive season for Palace, where he played 33 matches, scored three goals and provided three assists, performances that convinced the champions he was ready for the next step.
His debut came in an important game as City looked to steady the ship and rediscover their rhythm in the title race. Ahead of the match, Guardiola had already confirmed the England international would feature, underlining the manager’s trust in his qualities.
Omar Marmoush scored City’s first goal, before Antoine Semenyo added a second in first-half stoppage time to secure a much-needed victory and end a two-game losing streak.
With a solid debut now behind him, Guehi will aim to build on this start and become a regular pillar in City’s defence for the remainder of the season.
