Marc Cucurella targets Champions League success after joining Real Madrid

Marc Cucurella says he hopes to enjoy a successful spell at Real Madrid and help the club win trophies after completing his move from Chelsea.

The Spain international made his first official appearance for the Spanish giants on Saturday, featuring in their 2-1 victory over Espanyol in the second round of La Liga.

Speaking at his presentation as a Real Madrid player, Cucurella said representing the club was a source of immense pride and that he was determined to contribute to a memorable period for the team.

“It is a great source of pride and a very special day. The summer was long, but wearing the shirt of the best club in the world is a great honour. I hope this will be a wonderful period and that we can win many titles,” he said.

Cucurella also identified success in the Champions League as one of his main ambitions and admitted he was eager to play at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I hope I will be lucky enough to enjoy great seasons and win the Champions League. I have a great desire to play at the Santiago Bernabeu, and I know how much influence it has and the awe it creates, especially in second-leg matches,” he added.

The 28-year-old left-back said his time at Real Madrid could become one of the most important chapters of his career, while making clear that pleasing the club’s supporters was a central objective.

“It will be one of the most beautiful periods of my career, and I hope everything goes well so that we can make the Real Madrid fans happy,” Cucurella said.

Cucurella joined Real Madrid from Chelsea on a contract running until the summer of 2032. His move brings to an end his time at Stamford Bridge, where he made 163 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing 13 assists.

The defender has also represented Spain and helped La Roja win the World Cup after a 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina. Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in that match.

His first competitive outing for Real Madrid came in a home win against Espanyol on Saturday, as the club continued its campaign in La Liga with three points from the fixture.

Real Madrid will next face Real Sociedad on Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu in a fixture postponed from the opening round of the league season.

Cucurella will hope to build on his debut as he begins his first campaign with the club, with domestic silverware and Champions League glory among the ambitions he has already outlined. His immediate priority, however, is settling into the team and helping Real Madrid maintain their strong start while showing the qualities that persuaded the club to sign him from Chelsea.
