Marc Cucurella delighted to begin Real Madrid career alongside ‘wonderful’ new team-mates

Marc Cucurella says he is delighted to have joined his new Real Madrid team-mates after making his first appearance for the club in a 3-0 friendly victory over Schalke.

The left-back moved to Real Madrid from Chelsea this summer and was involved as his new side began preparations for the season with a convincing win.

Cucurella spoke to the club’s channel after the match and said he had quickly settled into his new surroundings.

“I am very happy with my new team-mates. Everything has been easy, and I am happy with everything that is happening to me,” he said.

“It is important to have a good group that is connected on the pitch, because that is how you win.”

Cucurella added that the result reflected the hard work put in by the squad and said the players must maintain the same approach.

“I am very happy. There is hard work behind all of this, and all our efforts have been worthwhile. We must continue in this way,” he said.

The 27-year-old also praised the welcome he had received since completing his move, saying the attitudes of his new colleagues had helped everyone come together.

“My new team-mates are absolutely wonderful. They make it easier for everyone to join together as one united family,” Cucurella said.

He also revealed that he had received a large number of messages offering encouragement and promised to give everything for his new club.

“I have received a lot of messages of support and I will give everything I have. The most important thing remains winning trophies,” he said.

Cucurella’s first outing for Real Madrid came in a match that ended with a three-goal victory over Schalke, giving him an early opportunity to play alongside the squad he joined during the summer.

His comments focused on the importance of unity within the team, with the defender highlighting the link between a strong atmosphere among the players and success on the pitch. He said the work carried out by the squad had already proved worthwhile, while stressing that the same level of effort would be required going forward.

Real Madrid are now preparing to face Espanyol in the second round of the Spanish league. Their opening fixture against Real Sociedad was postponed, meaning the meeting with Espanyol will be their next scheduled league match.
