Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa hasn’t hidden his ambition: a return to the French national team remains a top priority for the AS Roma defender. After earning his first and only cap in August 2012, the Franco-Central African center-back has endured highs and lows, notably during a difficult spell at Newcastle United.
Now back on track with AS Roma, where he’s regained confidence and regular playing time, Yanga-Mbiwa is looking forward—with Les Bleus still in his sights.
“It’s every player’s goal to wear the jersey of their national team, especially when you’ve already tasted it. You must always keep hope, self-belief and be aware of your abilities. Afterwards, it will depend on what I can accomplish with AS Roma, where I came to win titles,” Yanga-Mbiwa told L’Équipe.
