Manu Kone Roma contract includes Borussia Monchengladbach sell-on clause

Manu Kone’s move from Borussia Monchengladbach to Roma in the summer of 2024 included a clause that could still benefit the German club, according to financial documents seen by Sportune.

Roma paid around 18 million euros to sign the France midfielder on a permanent deal. The documents reveal that the agreement contains a sell-on fee, meaning Gladbach would receive 10 per cent of any profit Roma make if they sell Kone in the future.

That profit would be calculated from the difference between the price Roma paid for Kone and the fee received in a future transfer. The clause is a common feature in European football deals, allowing selling clubs to share in a player’s later rise in value.

For Gladbach, it means Kone’s development in Italy could still bring financial rewards. If Roma eventually sell the midfielder for a higher price, the Bundesliga side would be entitled to a share of the gain.

Kone has become an important figure at Roma since arriving from Germany. His performances have strengthened his reputation, and any future transfer could now prove costly for Roma while providing Gladbach with an unexpected windfall.
