Manchester United have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, with the Seagulls reportedly valuing the Gambia international at €80m.
According to Sport Witness, Manchester United are looking to strengthen their wide areas ahead of the second half of the season and have identified Minteh as a potential addition.
Brighton’s valuation reflects the importance they place on the 22-year-old, who remains under contract with the club until 2029. The Premier League side have set a starting price of €80m for his transfer.
Liverpool are also continuing to monitor Minteh’s performances and are expected to challenge their Premier League rivals for his signature. The interest from both clubs remains despite the winger’s current absence from action.
Minteh was injured during a pre-season friendly and has not yet played this season. His lack of appearances, however, has not stopped either Manchester United or Liverpool from tracking his situation ahead of the winter transfer window.
Former Gambia manager Saintfiet previously suggested a move to Liverpool could be possible, saying: “Minteh at Liverpool? It is possible.”
Minteh joined Brighton with a contract running until 2029 and earns €2,467,296 (1,603,742,400 FCFA) per year in England. Transfermarkt values the winger at €45m, considerably below the €80m asking price reportedly set by Brighton.
Brighton are due to play Sunderland in their sixth league match of the season.
