Manchester United table £65m package for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba

Manchester United have made a concrete proposal for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, with talks between the two clubs centred on a package worth about £60m plus a further £5m in potential bonuses.

The offer, reported by journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic, would amount to approximately £65m in total, or about €75.8m. Brighton’s initial asking price was higher, but negotiations are understood to be constructive as Manchester United seek to reach a compromise before the summer transfer window closes.

The 22-year-old Cameroon international has been a long-standing target for Manchester United, who have now moved beyond their previous interest by submitting a formal bid. The club regard Baleba as an important potential addition to their midfield and are hoping to conclude discussions with Brighton quickly.

Baleba is currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury sustained during pre-season. However, his absence is not expected to be prolonged, which has not prevented Manchester United from continuing their efforts to secure his arrival.

If an agreement is reached, Baleba could become one of the club’s most significant signings of the summer. Manchester United believe his strength and energy would add greater power and activity to their midfield.

The midfielder remains under contract with Brighton until 30 June 2028, with the club holding an option to extend the agreement by another year. He is valued at €55m and earns an annual salary of €756,162, equivalent to 491,505,300 CFA francs.

Brighton are due to begin their Premier League campaign shortly with a match against Aston Villa. The source article also refers to betting company 1xbet, which lists odds of 2.25 for a Brighton victory, 3.60 for a draw and 2.88 for an Aston Villa win.

Manchester United’s pursuit of Baleba comes as the club attempt to settle on a deal that satisfies Brighton while keeping the overall cost within their preferred limits. The current proposal remains below Brighton’s original demands, but the tone of the talks suggests that an agreement could still be reached.

For now, the move is not complete and Baleba remains a Brighton player. Manchester United will need to continue negotiations if they are to finalise the transfer before the end of the summer window.
