Manchester United sweep aside Sabah 4-0 in Champions League statement win

Manchester United made a dominant return to major European action by beating Sabah 4-0 at the Theatre of Dreams in a one-sided Champions League encounter.

The home side controlled the match from the opening minute and maintained its authority until the final whistle, producing an emphatic result and a clean sheet against the Azerbaijani visitors.

United began with sustained attacking pressure, denying Sabah the opportunity to settle. The relentless start eventually produced the opening goal in the 27th minute, following a well-worked move down the left.

Young full-back Patrick Dorgu advanced into the area before sending a precise low cross into the danger zone. The Brazilian Matheus Cunha, wearing the number 10 shirt, met it with a first-time finish that went beyond the goalkeeper.

Sabah’s situation worsened shortly before half-time when Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes doubled the advantage in the 42nd minute. The midfielder capitalised on a serious mistake by Sabah player Youri Tielemans, who misplaced a pass in the centre of the pitch.

The home side continued to dictate the contest after the restart rather than easing off. Its fourth goal arrived in the 68th minute, when Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez reacted quickest to a cross and struck firmly from inside the penalty area.

The finish completed the scoring at 4-0 and capped a performance in which United combined attacking fluency with defensive control.

The result delivered four goals, a clean sheet and a commanding display that recalled some of Manchester United’s most memorable European nights. It also underlined the team’s ambition to establish itself as a difficult opponent in this season’s Champions League.
