Manchester United supporters directed intense criticism at Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Senne Lammens after their side suffered a 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.
The result left United in 16th place and increased pressure on manager Michael Carrick, who appears to be facing the prospect of leaving the club. However, despite the damaging loss, sections of the home support continued to chant Carrick’s name after enduring a difficult 90 minutes.
Bournemouth took control before half-time. Ryan opened the scoring in the 38th minute, before Marcus Tavernier doubled the visitors’ advantage prior to the interval. Evanilson completed the scoring in the second half, leaving Bournemouth celebrating and United looking further down the table.
According to The Sun, many United fans identified Maguire, Martinez and Lammens as the main targets of their anger following the defensive performance.
Supporters quickly took to social media to give their views on the match. One user on X wrote: “Oh my God, Lammens, you are a complete idiot. This goes beyond Carrick.”
Another posted: “Lammens, Maguire and Martinez were absolutely shocking out there.”
A further supporter argued Maguire could not escape responsibility for Bournemouth’s third goal.
“There is no way Maguire can avoid criticism for the third goal,” they wrote. “Evanilson literally dribbled past Lammens, yet he did not even hurry back to defend the goal. The defence was disastrous in every sense.”
