Manchester United secure land for proposed 100,000-capacity stadium

Manchester United have secured a plot of land that will form part of the proposed site for a new 100,000-capacity stadium, chief executive Omar Berrada has confirmed.

Berrada said the acquisition represented a significant step in the club’s plans to develop a new home capable of welcoming 100,000 supporters.

“We have successfully secured the land on which the club’s new stadium, with a capacity of 100,000 spectators, will be built,” Berrada told The Times.

He added: “Our main focus is our plan to develop a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000, and we have now completed a crucial step by securing the land that will form part of the proposed site for the new stadium.”

Manchester United currently play at Old Trafford, which was built in 1910 and has a present capacity of 74,000.

Berrada also highlighted the club’s financial performance during the previous season, despite Manchester United not competing in European competitions.

“We are pleased to have achieved record revenues and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, reflecting the fundamental strength of our business last season despite the team’s absence from European competitions,” he said.

He added that the figures demonstrated progress in the club’s financial planning.

“These results confirm that we are on the right track, and we will continue to follow a disciplined approach to ensure the sustainability of our financial position,” Berrada said.
