Cristiano Ronaldo Dismisses Manchester United Return Rumours: “My Future Is in Madrid”
By BBC News Staff
Cristiano Ronaldo has firmly denied speculation linking him with a return to Manchester United, ending weeks of growing excitement among fans of the Premier League club.
The Portuguese forward, who enjoyed six trophy-laden years at Old Trafford before joining Real Madrid in 2009, addressed the swirling rumours during an interview with Spanish outlet AS, clarifying his commitment to the Spanish giants.
“Will I return to England? It’s just speculation, everyone is talking about my future. My future is in Madrid. I’m happy here,” Ronaldo said. “The start of the season is going very well for me, so there’s no need to talk about my future—it doesn’t make sense.”
Ronaldo’s emphatic dismissal of the rumours is likely to come as a blow to Manchester United fans, many of whom had been holding out hope for an emotional reunion with their former star. The Daily Mail recently reported that a group of supporters even planned to fly a “Come Home Ronaldo” banner over Villarreal’s stadium during Real Madrid’s La Liga match on 27 September.
However, with nine goals in just four league appearances this season, Ronaldo is clearly thriving in Madrid, showing no signs of dissatisfaction either on or off the pitch.
Despite the romantic appeal of a return to Old Trafford, Ronaldo appears focused on continuing his success in Spain, where he remains a central figure for Real Madrid.
