Manchester United push to sign Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba before 2026 World Cup
Manchester United are seeking to capture the signature of Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba before the start of the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
The 22-year-old Brighton midfielder has remained firmly on the Red Devils’ radar since last summer, when United initially explored a move but failed to reach an agreement with the Premier League side.
Per reports, Manchester United have now made Baleba a priority target ahead of the transfer window, with club officials keen to accelerate negotiations and secure his signature as early as possible.
The Premier League giants’ ambition is to finalise the transfer before the World Cup kicks off on June 11, underlining how highly the club rate the young Cameroonian international.
Baleba has impressed with his energy, ball-winning ability and composure in midfield since joining Brighton, quickly establishing himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in the Premier League.
Despite strong interest from Old Trafford, Brighton are in a strong negotiating position, with the midfielder under contract until 2028.
However, the Seagulls are reportedly open to a sale if their valuation is met, meaning United will likely need to submit a significant offer to convince the south coast club to part ways with one of their key assets.
Manchester United see Baleba as a long-term solution in midfield as they look to rebuild and add more dynamism to their squad ahead of a crucial new season.
