Manchester United open to selling Andre Onana after Trabzonspor loan spell

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana plans to return for pre-season in mid-July after a strong loan spell with Trabzonspor, but the club reportedly want to move him on rather than reintegrate him into their squad.

Reports from Turkey say Trabzonspor would like to make the loan permanent, while Besiktas have also been linked with interest in signing the Cameroon international.

Onana impressed during his time in Turkey, making 29 appearances and helping Trabzonspor reach the Turkish Cup final as they secured third place in the league.

Despite that form, United appear set to keep Senne Lammens as their first-choice goalkeeper, leaving Onana out of Manchester’s immediate plans and potentially training away from the first team if he returns.

There is a possibility United will need another goalkeeper if Altay Bayındır departs, but the club reportedly view Onana’s wages and strong personality as obstacles to him accepting a backup role at Old Trafford.

Onana’s situation now looks like a crossroads: he can push for a permanent move in Turkey where he’s valued, or attempt to fight for a place back at United with uncertain prospects and a club that seems ready to move on.
